Vikings finish season at state tourney

CASPER – The Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings volleyball team went 0-2 at the 1A Wyoming State Volleyball Championships in Casper over the weekend to finish the season 7-16 overall.

‘This was a new experience for these players as they hadn’t made an appearance in over a decade,” Guernsey coach Talon Collar said. “The Lady Vikings may not have come out with wins on the scoreboard but had bigger wins overall. These girls learned what it means to be a team and work together to overcome and persevere. It has been such a wonderful season.”

The Lady Vikings opened state tournament play Thursday with a three-set loss to eventual state champion Cokeville (25-7, 25-13, 25-9), and finished their season with a three-set loss to Burlington (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) Friday.

“Community and competitors have noticed the growth and improvements,” Collar said. “This is evident with every game as we present to the court. As a coach it has been so wonderful to hear positive comments about the growth of the players and team even from rival competitors.

“These girls have made memories with a successful season learning that working together is what brings them strength,” she continued. “They now have a taste of competitive volleyball and state tournament competition. The Lady Vikings have big goals moving forward for the seasons to come and it will be exciting to see what these ladies bring to the court. Each of these young ladies has made everyone so proud.”
