Eagle Scout project to improve cemetery directory access

Posted

GUERNSEY – Local boy scout, Nathan VanNatter, presented a plan to the Guernsey Town Council last week proposing his idea to create a QR code to coordinate with a directory at the cemetery.

Though last week’s article in the Gazette stated plans to install a metal QR code on the gravestones, this is not the method he will be using. VanNatter wanted to make people aware he wants to install a QR code somewhere in or around the building at Prairie Rest Cemetery to allow visitors to scan the code and quickly be linked to the town’s digital directory. He will not be altering headstones in any way. VanNatter’s project will also include clean-up of the cemetery and verifying the accuracy of existing maps in matching the physical locations of the graves.

The work involved in making this modern update is a community project VanNatter hopes to use to gain his Eagle Scout rank, but especially to give back to the community who has been a blessing to him.

Before the project can begin, VanNatter needed to gain the support of the town council, as well as the approval of the leadership of Boy Scouts of America, before he can proceed with the QR code directory.
