Guernsey Vikings boys’ basketball takes on No. 1 ranked Lingle Doggers; defeats conference foe Hanna-Elk Mountain

GUERNSEY - Friday night the Vikings hosted the Number 1 rated team from 2A the Lingle Doggers.  The game was a difficult match up for the Vikings, who fell 62-26.

We had two goals for this game first was to control the tempo and not get into a fast pace frenzied style of game with them.  Overall the boys did well with that goal.  There were only a couple of times we let the pace get away from us.  Our second goal was to execute offensively in the half court.  The Lingle defense caused us problems throughout the night forcing the Vikings into many forced shots and a low shooting percentage. The vikings initially started strong going up six in the opening portion of the game but succumbed to the aggressive play of Lingle.

Saturday The Vikings traveled to Hanna to play a conference game.  Against Hanna we picked up the tempo with full court pressure that was very effective.  It was good to see better offensive execution leading to eight different Vikings scoring.  The team play was much better with a season high in assists and shooting percentage.

The bench play showed improvement in both games Friday night Conner Bristow had a season high of six points.  Saturday, Joey Lewis contributed key minutes with timely baskets.

The Viking JV did suffer their first defeat of the season to Lingle 25-9 but bounced back Saturday to dominate Hanna 44-19.  The JV are 5-1 and the Varsity 4-3.
