Vikes end track season at state meet in Casper

CASPER—Thirteen of the Viking track team members competed this past weekend at the 1A Wyoming State High School Track and Field Championships held at Harry Geldien Stadium Thursday through Saturday.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Gabe Milton, Taylor Sterner, Conner Bristow and Jayden Wagner-Gross turned in the highest finish for the weekend as they placed third with a time of 46.81. Riverside won the event with a time of 45.77.

Juliana Schiele finished sixth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8-0. Alyssa Nyquist finished in 10th place with a height of 7-0. Dakota Cervantes of Riverside took first with a height of 9-03.

Joey Lewis scored the Vikings’ only other placement points as he finished seventh in the discus with a mark of 113-01. Kaben Pickett of Encampment took the title with a distance of 158-0.

Dymond Dimas tied for the 14th spot finish in the high jump with a height of 4-02. Addison Barnes of Cokeville took first, clearing 5-02.

The Viking boys had four entries in the 100-meter dash prelims but none of them qualified for the finals. Taylor Sterner ran a 12.10, Jayden Wagner-Gross clocked 12.30, Gabe Milton ran 12.32 and Mario Garcia finished in 12.57. The state title went to Riverside’s Ty Strohschein who ran 11.46.

Sterner and Wagner-Gross ran in the 200 prelims but did not make the finals. Sterner’s time was 24.24 and Wagner-Gross ran 25.02. Stroschein ran a 22.41 in the finals to claim the title.

Conner Bristow ran 58.76 in the prelims of the 400 but did not make the finals. Kannon Tippetts of Southeast finished first in the finals with a time of 50.77

Domonic Ramirez ran the 800 in a time of 2:22.83, finishing in the 16th spot. Drake Plowman of Cokeville won the title, clocking 1:59.88.

Ramirez ran 5:32.35 and Phylip Morales ran 5:58.29, taking the 14th and 16th places respectively. Plowman claimed that title as well with a time of 4:36.34.

Ramirez finished ninth in the 3200 with a time of 11:55.31 and Morales finished 17th in the event, clocking13:29.84.

Plowman made it a triple sweep of the distance events, taking first in a time of 10:15.14.

Nathan VanNatter ran a 48.23 in the 300-meter hurdles prelims but did not qualify for finals. Wyatt Trembly of Dubois won the title with a time of 40.46.

Taylor Sterner competed in the high jump but did not record a successful jump. Vaun Pierson of Kaycee cleared the bar at 5-10 to win the event title.

Kaiser Edwards also had a tough day, unable to mark a height in the pole vault. Kyler Winters of Burlington placed first, clearing13-06.

VanNatter finished 13th in the triple jump, marking 36-01.75. Ethan Schiller of Upton took the title with a distance of 44-06.5. 

For the girls’ team title, Cokeville won first with 147 points, followed by Southeast (107), Upton (84), Burlington (72), Riverside (61), Saratoga (45), Dubois (37), Encampment (36), Hulett (24), Little Snake River (23), Kaycee (22), Hanna-Elk Mountain (13), Farson-Eden (13), Midwest (7), Rock River (4), Guernsey-Sunrise (3) and Ten Sleep (2).

Burlington won the boys’ team championship with 115.5 points, followed by Cokeville (87.2), Upton (70), Riverside (61.2), Dubois (58), Saratoga (48.5), Ten Sleep (48), Encampment (42), Kaycee (35.2), Little Snake River (27), Southeast (25), Midwest (24),Meeteetse (16), Hulett (11), Guernsey-Sunrise (8), Farson-Eden (7), Rock River (5), Hanna-Elk Mountain (5), Western Heritage Lutheran (4) and Fort Washakie (4).  

The Vikings will lose seniors Chloe Holbrook, Domonic Ramirez, Juliana Schiele and Kris White but will return a talented group that has shown much improvement this season.
