GUERNSEY – The Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings volleyball squad went 2-2 at the 1A East Regional Volleyball Tournament in Hulett over the weekend and earned a trip to the state tournament this weekend.
The Lady Vikings opened tournament play Friday with a four-set upset of host Hulett (25-23, 11-25, 25-20, 25-22) to reach the semifinals, where they fell to eventual runner-up Southeast in three sets (25-11, 25-19, 25-16).
The loss dropped Guernsey-Sunrise into consolation play, where a matchup with Midwest would be for a trip to the state tournament. The Lady Vikings had beaten Midwest twice during the regular season, once in five sets in mid-September, and again in four sets just one week ago.
The Vikings came out firing on all cylinders and swept the Lady Oilers (25-13, 28-26, 25-11) to solidify their spot in the state tournament. In the consolation championship, Guernsey-Sunrise fell to Hulett in three sets (25-23, 25-13, 25-15), and will be the four seed from the east at state.
The Lady Vikings will open state tournament play Thursday evening at 6 p.m. against Cokeville.
