GUERNSEY – The Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings lost their home non-conference game against the Niobrara County Lady Tigers on Tuesday with a final score of 53-22.
“We did some good things with our ball handling,” Cook said. “We’ve focused on improving our fundamentals and some of that showed. We will continue to work on things we need to improve upon as we get closer to regionals. We’re a young team so we’ll keep learning from our mistakes and get better with each game.”
The Lady Vikings kept things close through the first quarter, trailing 14-11.
However, that’s where the visiting Lady Tigers started to pull away.
Guernsey was held scoreless in the second quarter, while NCHS pulled away to take a 20-11 lead into halftime.
Over the final two quarters, Niobrara County outscored the Lady Vikings 33-11 to pull away for the 31-point victory.
Rylie Thompson led the Lady Vikings with a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Liberty Whitebird tossed in five. Thompson also tallied seven blocks.
The Lady Vikings will compete against the Edgemont (South Dakota) Lady Moguls at home on Jan. 31 and will take on the Rock River Lady Longhorns at Rock River on Feb. 3.
