Vikings excel at track invitation in Lusk

Lewis invited to compete at elite Best of the West meet in Scottsbluff, Nebraska

SCOTTSBLUFF, NEBRASKA and LUSK – The GSHS track and field team traveled to the Best of the West in Scottsbluff, Nebraska on Tuesday. Joey Lewis earned a chance to compete in the discus and placed 11th in the elite meet.
On Saturday, all the Vikings’ squad competed at Lusk in the Dennis Zowada Invitational and had several top five performances.
The 4 x 400m relay team earned third, Taylor Sterner placed fourth in the high jump, and Joey Lewis placed fifth in both the shot put and the discus. The Vikings coaching staff were happy with the weekend.
Coach Trilby Douglas stated, “This season the athletes have fought cold weather, sickness, and injury. This last week showed the amount of perseverance that they have. Every athlete got a taste of success this last Saturday.”
Results for each athlete:
Lorelai White at Lusk earned 26th in the 100m at 17.07, 21st in the discus at 58’9”, and 26th in the shot put at 15’7”.

The 4x 400m relay team placed third at Lusk at 3:58.18. 
Conner Bristow placed 12th in the 100m at 12.49 and 16th in the 200m at 24.56.
Taylor Sterner at Lusk placed eighth in the 100m at 12.21, 10th in the 200m at 24.56, and fourth in the high jump at 5’6”.
Kaiser Edwards at Lusk placed 12th in the 300m hurdles at 48.71 and 18th in the pole vault at 8’6”.
Mario Garcia at Lusk earned 15th in the 100m at 12.71 and 7th in the 300m hurdles at 48.71.
Nathan VanNatter at Lusk placed 11th in the110m hurdles at 20.11, 19th in the long jump at 15’11”, and 11th in the high jump at 5’2”.
Peyton West at Lusk placed 28th in the 100m at 13.48 and 33rd in the discus at 76’7”.
Treycen World at Lusk earned 36th in the 100m at 15.43 and 41st in the shot put at 27’5”.
Joey Lewis at Lusk placed fifth in the shot put at 41’11.5” and fifth in the discus at 127’5”. At the Best of the West Meet, he earned 11th in the discus at 115’4”.
Friday, May 9 the track team will travel to Lusk, and on Saturday, May 17 they will compete at the regional tournament in Torrington.
