GUERNSEY—With just six players on their roster, the Viking boys opened their 2018-2019 season with a fair showing against the Minatare Indians Saturday in the Viking gym.
Although Minatare walked away with a 61-47 win, the Vikes’ efforts were not lost on the crowd that came for opening night.
Head Coach Nate Reinhardt knows his players are going to have some big obstacles to overcome this season with such a limited number out for the team this season. In addition, the Vikes are starting just one senior and one junior, two sophomores and aa freshman so their experience will also factor into what’s bound to be a challenging season.
The Vikes were actually up 9-8 at the end of the first quarter but Minatare pulled ahead by halftime to a 30-22 lead. With just one player to sub in, keeping fresh legs will also be at a disadvantage.
Junior guard Alex Delgado led the Vikes with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.
