GUERNSEY--VFW Post 4471 is collecting worn out flags from the community and will hold a United States flag retirement ceremony in the future. You may drop off flags with any VFW or Auxiliary member or call Don Mack (836-2180) or Pam Cain (837-0189) to make arrangements.
According to the U.S. flag code, flags to be retired when worn or stained should be destroyed in a dignified manner, the preferable way being to burn them.
Guernsey’s VFW last held a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day (June 14) of 2011. A date has not yet been set for the next retirement.
