In 1890, Wyoming’s first federally recognized National Guard unit formed,  It was Company A, 1st Wyoming Regiment, the Laramie Grays.  The Laramie Grays were a short-lived cavalry unit. In spite of the absolute dependance on the horse for the economy of the region, Wyoming National Guard units were generally infantry, and then artillery, up until after World War I.

In 1871, the  Wyoming Stock Growers Association, which would have an enormous impact on Wyoming’s history, was formed.

In 1947, Fort F. E. Warren became an Air Force base.
