Students from Guernsey attend 2023 Baccalaureate

GUERNSEY – The 2023 graduates from Guernsey-Sunrise High School and one home schooled graduate was honored at the annual Baccalaureate ceremony held May 10 in Guernsey.

Those who attend a baccalaureate, means you are attending a ceremony celebrating graduating seniors. Traditionally, a baccalaureate was a religious service held the Sunday before graduation, but in modern times it doesn’t necessarily have a religious meaning.

Guernsey’s Baccalaureate however emphasized the Christian aspect of the ceremony and prayed over this year’s graduating class as they are about to head out into the world to begin their new adventures.

The 2023 graduates from Guernsey-Sunrise are: Paige Andrews, Caleb Christensen, Evan Davis, Emmett Dawson, Jacob Roper, Chace Thompson and Kolten Weinkauf. The 2023 home schooled student honored was Richard Monroe Jr.

The theme for the night came from the book of Proverbs, 16:3. “Commit your work to the Lord and your plans will succeed.”

The night began with the welcome and introduction by Craig Frederick, after which, Pastor Tim Coupe from Faith Fellowship came forth and gave the invocation before the meal.

During the banquet instrumental music was offered by the Guernsey-Sunrise Band and as the meal was ending, vocal music was provided by the Guernsey-Sunrise choir.

A Bible reading was then given by Tim Newton from St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church followed by a message to the graduates by Coupe. The benediction was given by Pastor Liz Morgan from Guernsey United Presbyterian Church.

The Guernsey Lions Club then gave a senior recognition and the scholarship presentation was done by Frederick.
