GUERNSEY – Last Wednesday, a live-feed post to parents, students, and staff at Guernsey-Sunrise schools received notification the district was confirmed to have been effected by the nationwide PowerSchool information system data breach on Dec. 28, 2024.
Platte Co. School District No. 2 superintendent Lisa Weigel said the school was notified on Jan. 8, 2025 of the cybersecurity breach which gave unauthorized access to certain teacher and staff information, but the district’s internal infrastructure was neither breached, nor a target.
PowerSchool hosted a webinar attended by local administrators and technology directors, which confirmed the stolen data primarily included details on names, emails, addresses and phone numbers. No malware was deployed in the incident, and there is no ongoing malicious activity in the PowerSchool environment.
