WHEATLAND and CHEYENNE – Last Tuesday, the Wheatland Lobos played a double header conference matchup with Torrington. The Tigers prevailed in game one by a score of 4-2.

Game two was a different story as the Lobos unleashed a scoring frenzy in the opening innings with 9 runs. Ayden Lind, Mason Collar, and Hayden Steinsiek all drove in two runs each. Torrington committed five errors during Wheatland’s advance and the score ended 13-3 in the Lobos favor. 

On Friday the Lobos competed at the Tri-State Border War Tournament at Cheyenne, with Tinmuth, Colorado Cubs at 1 p.m. on Powers Field and North Platte at 3:30 p.m. Wheatland came up short against Tinmath by a score of 17-7, but turned things around and beat the North Platte Juniors 13-3. 

The Lobos continued double header action on Saturday versus Mountain View from Loveland, Colorado at 4:30 p.m. and the Cheyenne Hawks @ 7 p.m. The Mountain Lions got the best of the Lobos winning 7-3. Steinsieck led with two hits and one RBI for Wheatland. 

The Lobos dropped the second game of the day to the Hawks by a score of 16-5. 

The Lobos bounced back on Sunday, defeating the Laramie Rangers with a score of 11-9. The sixth inning proved to be the highlight of the game as Steinsiek was able to tie the game up with a single that scored two runs. They added a sacrifice fly that scored a run as well. Steinsiek finished the game with two hits and three RBI’s. The Lobos finished the tournament with a 2-3 record over three days.

Summarizing the week’s play, head coach Myles Hixson said, “This last weekend we played good competition. We tested a little and ended up with two wins.”

“We will head back in action Tuesday with Sheridan and Casper. Both are very important conference games,” he added.
