GUERNSEY – The Guernsey-Sunrise High School girls basketball team has a new coach for the 2024-2025 season. Coach Daeh Kujak will be leading the varsity team with help from Reva Dean and Saysha Woeste. Coach Kujak has well over 10 years of coaching different age groups from preschool to a much higher level at a small private college.
The Lady Vikings kicked off their season at the Burns Classic last week. There are two returning starters and three returning letter winners for the varsity squad. Returning players include Layla Noggle, a 5’4” senior guard; Liberty Whitebird, a 5’3” senior guard; Alyssa Nyquist, a 5’6” junior guard; Jacy Clark, a 4’3” junior guard; and Dymond Dimas, a 5’5” sophomore guard.
New players and incoming freshmen include: Shalease Fross, a 5’4” sophomore guard; Allyann Demas, a 5’6” freshmen guard; Abby Seryfang, a 5’4” freshmen guard; Tayler Nyquist, a 5’4” freshmen guard; and Delaynie Hort, a 5’4” freshmen guard.
“This season is full of new beginnings for the Lady Vikings. New coaches, new offenses and defenses, and young players,” coach Kujak said of this year’s outlook. “Our goal this year is ‘TEAM!’ We will be working to use our speed and agility against our opponents’ noticeable size and age differences. Through persistence, endurance, and a strong desire to win, the Lady Vikings will not be easily defeated this season. Look for the Lady Vikings to rise up out of the ashes and improve their rankings: striving for a spot at Regionals and ultimately the state competition.”
