GUERNSEY – On Tuesday Guernsey-Sunrise High School girls basketball team took on Banner County, Nebraska and lost 33-24. Then on Friday the Lady Vikings played Hanna-Elk Mountain and fell 47-7. The game on Saturday against Hulett was postponed and a date to make that game is to be determined.
“The team continues to work on learning mental toughness. How to play through a stolen ball, or a missed shot rather than giving up – rising above their own weaknesses.” Coach Daeh Kujak commented on the week’s games. “In our game against HEM, Alyssa Nyquist was our player of the game. She had four offensive rebounds, three defensive rebounds, and three steals. During our game versus Banner County, Liberty Whitebird stood out. She had 13 points, one offensive board, two defensive boards, two assists, five steals, and two blocks.”
The game scheduled for Saturday with Hulett was cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. It is unknown at this time if the game can be rescheduled, according to Viking activities director Jolynn Hillen. The Vikings will travel to Lingle on Friday to face a tough Doggers team. Tip-off for the boys’ varsity game is set for 7 p.m. The junior varsity boys will play at 4 p.m. They will face Hanna-Elk Mountain again on the Saturday at Hanna.
The junior varsity boys will play at noon, followed by the varsity girls and then the varsity boys. The annual freshman-sophomore tournaments will be held next Monday evening. The boys’ games will be played in Lusk and the girls’ tournament will play at Guernsey. Games are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. at both sites.
