GUERNSEY--Despite the wind that made the lower temperatures seem even colder, three young Guernsey Cub Scouts stood at strict attention last Thursday afternoon, part of a ceremony that they will likely remember for many years to come. William Knowlton, Braden Stenson and Joe Noganash of Cub Scout Pack 49 joined Major Tyler Schiele from the Wyoming National Guard, helping fold one and then place the first three flags into the flames of a burning barrel, the accepted way of retiring a United States flag.
A short ceremony conducted by members of the VFW Post 4471 and Auxiliary was held in front of approximately 40 area residents who braved the cold to witness the event.
