WHEATLAND – This Saturday, the Town and Country Garden Club will host a program about preparing gardens for winter. The public is invited to the free program, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Platte County Library.
LeRoy Jons from Platte County Master Gardeners will share information about winterizing gardens in the local climate and will be available to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.
This is also the official launch of the club’s new meeting day to the third Saturday of every month, where everyone is welcome to attend.
The Town and Country Garden Club has been in existence in Wheatland for over 50 years. In addition to meeting monthly to discuss a wide range of topics relating to gardening – from making bird feeders, learning about pollinators, specific gardening challenges, success tips, and more – the club also seeks to benefit the community in multiple ways.
The group maintains the rose garden near the swimming pool and park, donate a tree to someone each Arbor Day, and give candy or flowers to Legacy Home residents for Halloween and Valentine’s Day. They also host a fall craft bazaar the first Sunday in November, which will be held this year on Nov. 3 at the Agriplex in Wheatland.
