Nearly 40 people spent a Saturday morning in April cleaning up a section of the North Platte River. The volunteer crew focused this year on the west side of town near the newest access point which was installed in 2024. Efforts to clean up the river began several years ago when a group of people who regularly float throughout the summer months recognized that the amount of dangerous items being left along the banks and in the water was increasing and decided to do something about it. A spring clean-up day was established to coincide with the increase in water supply in the river so that debris normally covered could be accessed. Since 2022, hundreds of pounds of trash, glass and metal has been removed and disposed of properly.
