Guernsey-Sunrise volleyball serving up surprises

Posted

GUERNSEY – The Guernsey-Sunrise Lady Vikings started the volleyball season off on the right foot as they defeated Banner County in straight games.

Although games one and two were nailbiters, game three had everyone convinced that Guernsey-Sunrise volleyball has turned a corner and proved that they could come from behind and hold serve. In the final game, the Lady Vikings were down 20-12 before Jordan Atwood came to the net and reeled off successive serves to bring the girls to a victory, while holding their opponents scoreless during that stretch.

“The 2022 season is off to a great start,” said head volleyball coach Mindy Kelley. “We met up with Banner County on Saturday for a JV game and we came away with a win. Game 1 score: 25-18, Guernsey Game 2 score: 25-20, Guernsey, Game 3 score: 25-21, Guernsey.  Jordan Atwood led the team in serves as she scored 12 points followed closely by LaShea Jaramillo with 10 points. The team worked hard and left it all out on the court. As we move forward toward, we will be determining who will become varsity starters for our upcoming game against Sioux County. This will not be an easy task as we have a group of girls who push themselves every day.”
