Viking track teams compete at Zowada Invitational

LUSK—The Guernsey-Sunrise track teams competed in the Dennis Zowada Invitational meet this past weekend. The Vikes were joined by teams from Burns, Gordon-Rushville (NE), Pine Bluffs, Southeast, Prairie View (Chugwater community school) and host Lusk.  

Burns won the boys’ team title with 179 points, followed by Lusk (137),Gordon-Rushville (113), Pine Bluffs (74), Guernsey-Sunrise (55), Southeast (52) and Prairie View (6).  

Competing for the Vikes in the 100 Meter Dash were Jayden Wagner-Gross (12.69), Gabe Milton (12.91), Taylor Sterner (13.15), and Mario Garcia (15.45. Daniel Martins of Gordon-Rushville won the event with a time of 12.02.

In the 200 Meter Dash, Sterner had the best Viking time with 26.08, followed by Milton (26.48) and Korbin Weinkauf (27.77). First place went to Shaw Martin of Burns who ran a 24.42.

Dominic Ramirez placed fourth in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:25.83. Kaiser Edwards placed seventh with a time of 2:41.06.  Lusk’s David West placed first with a time of 2:12.14.

Ramirez took fifth place in the 1600 Meter Run, clocking a 5:35.19. Phylip Morales was right behind to claim sixth place with a time of 5:43.72. Luke Lawes of Gordon-Rushville took first with a time of 5:16.43.

Morales took second in the 3200 Meter Run, running a 13:06.76. Ramirez placed fourth with a time of 13:25.87.  Lawes took first in that event as well with a time of 12:17.94

Nathan VanNatter finished fifth in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 50.54. Ethan Norris from Burns finished first in 42.44.

The Vikings’ 4x100 Meter Relay team placed first with a time of 47.49.

Sterner finished fourth in the High Jump, clearing 5-04. Nathan Miller of Lusk won the event marking 6-02.

VanNatter picked up fifth place in the Long Jump with a distance of 17-02. Conner Bristow marked 17-01 and Mario Garcia hit 15-10. Cory Bruegger of Lusk took first with a leap of 20-07.

VanNatter place fifth in the Triple Jump with a distance of 36-11.75. Julian Rodriguez cleared 33-01.75 and Korbin Weinkauf hit 31-10.75. Bruegger placed first in that event as well with a mark of 42-05.75. 

Joey Lewis finished fifth in the Discus, throwing 109-01.Christopher White notched 63-03. Raynce Brott of Lusk placed first with a mark of 122-09.

Lewis placed sixth in the Shot Put with mark of 34-04.5. White marked24-05. Lusk’s Brott won the event with a mark of 43-11.5.

In the girls’ competition, the Vikes placed sixth of seven teams. Burns won the team honors with 177.5 points, followed by Southeast (114), Gordon-Rushville (107), Lusk (104.5), Pine Bluffs (82), Guernsey-Sunrise (20) and Prairie View (0).  

In the 100 Meter Dash, Juliana Schiele (16.44), Jacey Clark (19.16) and Karli Weinkauf (19.62) competed but did not place. The event was won by Melody Zumbrunnen of Lusk with a time of 13.43.

Dymond Dimas finished seventh in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 3:05.19. Brynn Bach of Burns won with a time of 2:44.49.

Alyssa Nyquist placed fourth in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 7:12.83 and Lorelei White took sixth with a time of 8:11.36. Tyra American Horse of Gordon-Rushville ronin 6:13.63.

Dimas cleared 4-02 in the High Jump to place seventh. Marleigh Smith of Lusk won with a height of 5-0.

In the Long Jump, Schiele marked 13-01 to place seventh. Chloe Holbrook marked 9-06. Lusk’s Zumbrunnen finished first with a distance of15-06.5.

Schiele placed fourth in the Pole Vault, clearing 7-06 and Nyquist finished in seventh, marking 7-0. Bella Laguna of Burns won the event with a height of 8-06.

White marked 62-10 and Holbrook threw 41-03 in the Discus. McKinley Grover took first with a distance of 143-06.

Brooke Sterner and Holbrooke competed in the Shot Put. Sterner marked 23-01 and Holbrook hit 19-00. Harper Boche of Southeast claimed first with a distance of 40-03.5.

The Vikings will head to Torrington on Friday, May 3 for their final regular season meet. Regional Track will be held at Sundance on May 11 and the state track meet will be held in Casper May 16-18.
