As our first semester of our school year comes to a finish, I am in awe of the incredible work and accomplishments of our students and staff team at GS. While our days – months of August, September, October, November and now December (hard to believe), have been extremely busy they have been very full of supports, care, innovative learning, sharing, growing and collaboration among our entire district.
We successfully moved through and completed our District Peer Review in October as required every five years by the Wyoming Department of Education. This was no easy task and due to the efforts of our department leads, GS staff and students and our Board Team, this process allowed us to reflect, identify overall district strengths as well as determine future goals/needs in our quest for continuous improvement. We had several Wyoming leaders here with us during our Peer Review Process as they visited with staff and students.
Our fall sports season consisted of some successes and certainly some growth opportunities for our student athletes, and while faced with some challenges, our athletes and coaches worked hard to come together to determine solutions and preserve to finish out our fall seasons. I am confident with the addition of our improved weight room, as well as continued support opportunities in the “off-season,” our athletic programs will grow and expand. We are excited to launch a new E-Sports program for secondary students with the leadership of Karen Wambach and Dom Ibarra- this is an after-school opportunity involving well-organized multiplayer video game competitions played individually or as teams. Esports requires teamwork, communication and strategic thinking and problem solving. Our drama/theatre and music programs have had excellent shows and concerts this past semester. Another great opportunity for students to share and grow their talents outside the classroom!
With the help of so many across our district and community we were able to host an incredibly successful regional volleyball tournament. We had several community businesses and volunteers that assisted and I was once again reminded of how our small community “rallies together” to do great things! We had so many positive comments shared from visiting teams, coaches, and players for the hospitality, well-organized, and safe facilities that were all part of the success of our Regional tournament.
Sincerely,
Lisa Weigel
