PCSD No. 2 superintendent gives semester update

As our first semester of our school year comes to a finish, I am in awe of the incredible work and accomplishments of our students and staff team at GS. While our days – months of August, September, October, November and now December (hard to believe), have been extremely busy they have been very full of supports, care, innovative learning, sharing, growing and collaboration among our entire district.
We successfully moved through and completed our District Peer Review in October as required every five years by the Wyoming Department of Education. This was no easy task and due to the efforts of our department leads, GS staff and students and our Board Team, this process allowed us to reflect, identify overall district strengths as well as determine future goals/needs in our quest for continuous improvement. We had several Wyoming leaders here with us during our Peer Review Process as they visited with staff and students.
Our fall sports season consisted of some successes and certainly some growth opportunities for our student athletes, and while faced with some challenges, our athletes and coaches worked hard to come together to determine solutions and preserve to finish out our fall seasons. I am confident with the addition of our improved weight room, as well as continued support opportunities in the “off-season,” our athletic programs will grow and expand. We are excited to launch a new E-Sports program for secondary students with the leadership of Karen Wambach and Dom Ibarra- this is an after-school opportunity involving well-organized multiplayer video game competitions played individually or as teams. Esports requires teamwork, communication and strategic thinking and problem solving. Our drama/theatre and music programs have had excellent shows and concerts this past semester. Another great opportunity for students to share and grow their talents outside the classroom!
With the help of so many across our district and community we were able to host an incredibly successful regional volleyball tournament. We had several community businesses and volunteers that assisted and I was once again reminded of how our small community “rallies together” to do great things! We had so many positive comments shared from visiting teams, coaches, and players for the hospitality, well-organized, and safe facilities that were all part of the success of our Regional tournament.

We have celebrated numerous staff and student teaching and learning accomplishments; monthly Viking Pride student and staff winners, numerous VFW civic student and staff awards, state wide all conference athletic honors, district band competition, state Lego League competition, and numerous staff state wide teaching/leading awards. We recently recognized Mr. Troy Reichert who received the honor of being selected by the Association of Career and Technical Education as the 2025 ACTE Region V Carl Perkins Community Service Award as well as Mindy Kelly who recently received an honorable VFW educational leadership award. I am so proud of the daily “wins” we see every day in our classrooms with entire staff team and our students.
We continue to appreciate and strengthen the partnerships within our community, with families, our community businesses and organizations that assist us in providing so many supportive resources for our students and staff. Our recent family engagement HUG in a MUG event was attended by close to 100 families. Our most recent district podcast features many voices from our community volunteers and leaders that bring such great support to our school community.
I also wish to commend our PCSD No. 2 Board of Trustees team for recently receiving numerous individual and board team awards and honors at our Fall Wyoming School Boards Association Conference. Together, with our students, staff and families, we are growing great things at GS.
On behalf of our entire GS school community, we wish you all of our Platte County friends and families a safe and joyful holiday season and we look forward to great things ahead in 2025!

Sincerely,
Lisa Weigel
