New computer sales, service company opens in Wheatland

WHEATLAND – Bringing with them opportunity and resources through their business connections and new storefront, Rachel J. Williams and Vincent L. Anderson are following their heart, which led them to the small southeastern Wyoming town of Wheatland. They have been wanting to move here for several years, and finally had the opportunity this summer. So far, it’s a dream come true. And they plan to stay for the long haul.
Williams and Anderson chose Wheatland after learning about the close-knit, family-oriented culture in the town, where people know each other. They also want to be able to enjoy the outdoors – hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and just plain enjoying life and the community.
They happen to also be interested in helping people understand and navigate the world of technology.
Their business, Computer Store is as the name implies, a local computer and electronics resource center offering all the major electronics (computer, printer, software, firmware, printers, ink and unlocked cell phones plus DIY single-board computers, etc.) as any typical box store down the road. They hope to fill the gaps in the community for local businesses and individuals to obtain the computers, hardware, software, firmware, ink and more without having to drive out of town to do so. But there is more this couple wants to bring to the people in the community: the ability to break the mold of expectations for what is available or considered standard in the world of electronic operating systems and software.
“We want to help people develop technologic skills, gain knowledge of computer systems and software, and provide products people want and need, right here in Wheatland,” Anderson said.
He explained, Computer Store by Mighty House, Inc. plans to get the word out to people on the advantages of Libre-style free, open source software (where computer programming code logs and information are free and expected to be easily available for any changes in the code); awareness of how to avoid data mining or phishing scams and realizing there are more than two options for software platforms; and knowledge of privacy-protecting, open source software and apps available that are compatible with both Android and Apple systems. They would also like to cater to people or businesses who want to custom build their own systems to fit their needs, rather than relying on generic systems that may or may not last long into the future.

Computer Store would like to bring their knowledge and experience to help provide a need in the community. While providing products, skills, and knowledge to put together custom computers, install software, firmware or hardware systems, information on how to analyze code, etc.
While Computer Store does not do IT services, internet or repair work, they are teaming up with local resources who can assist customers with those issues.
“We are seeking to collaborate with the great professionals already here in this area who already provide those services,” Anderson said. He added, they are also working with internet service and cell phone providers to help customers make the connections they need to utilize the products sold in their store.
Advocates of supporting the community, the duo are doing everything they can to utilize local businesses as they add more aspects to their products and services. They want to meet a need for products, education and technologic resources in Platte County, as well as provide a gaming or further education space for local youth.
“It occurred to us there is a need across rural America for more technology resources …and we wanted to live in Wheatland for several years. We’re finally here, and we plan to be a part of this community for a very long time. We want to provide products and service to the people here, face-to-face: if you have questions about our products, you can talk directly to us – not some remote call center,” Williams said.
“Our passion is to have free and open-source education to foster awareness in the community,” Williams added. “We have resources and access to partnerships with companies like HP, Dell, Lenovo, Cisco, etc. so we can match people with what they want or need.”
The name Mighty House, Inc. has some significance, too. The small business plans to do big things over time. Williams and Anderson would like to expand to a larger space for the retail store that provides consultation services and software development. “If it goes as we dream, we would like to provide a LAN café with a “maker space” (where there are tools, kits, and space available for customers to build their own electronics, while having someone to give one-on-one instruction if needed),” Anderson said.
This couple hailing from Hawaii and west coast have gladly embraced the Wyoming dream of elbow room, beauty, and a welcoming community – and they want to keep it that way while giving back. “We want to do everything local that we can. We want to work with local people and businesses, and provide products and services people need. If you or your business has a specific need, let us know. We’d love to help,” Williams said.
