Lady Vikings split in last week’s action

Posted

GUERNSEY – Last week the Lady Vikings came away with a loss on Tuesday to Southeast High School and then, for the second time this year, defeated Hannah – Elk Mountain. (HEM)

On the road trip to Southeast, the focus, according to head coach Mindy Kelley was not completely there, and perhaps it had something to do with how Southeast played them the first time around.

Southeast is the conference leader in 1A Southeast and showed last week why. They handled the Vikings in three straight sets, 25-5, 25-6 and 25-6. The games were never really close and Southeast made quick work of the Vikings.

Paige Andrews led the team in kills with two and in returns with seven while Liberty Whitebird led the team in digs with three.

Friday night the Lady Vikings were back home to face HEM. It was a team that they had beaten earlier in the season which gave them their first victory in over a year. That was a match that went four sets and was nip and tuck through the entire match.

Friday’s scores were almost identical to the first go-round as the Vikings won again 3-1. The scores were 25-18, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-19. The second set was the only game that the girls dropped on the night.

Rylie Thompson led the team in kills with eight and blocked shots with one, both Andrews and Layla Noggle recorded three aces, Andrews led the team in digs with 10 and with nine assists. Noggle registered 19 returns for the night.

The girls will travel to Lingle on Thursday for a 6 p.m. varsity match and on Friday they will travel to Niobrara County for a 5 p.m. start. Their next home game will be Oct. 22 against Rock River.
