GUERNSEY – The Lady Vikings beat Midwest in nonconference action last Friday afternoon 3-1 and then dropped their last regular season home game to conference opponent Rock River.
After a much improved season, the Vikings won four games this season after not winning a game in the 21-22 season and not qualifying for regionals.
The girls beat Midwest by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-12. For the match, Rylie Thompson led the team in kills with six and she also led the team in aces with four. Kierstyn Collar led the team in digs with eight and Hayeden Bingham led the team in returns with 10.
Saturday conference foe Rock River came to town and it was Guernsey-Sunrise High School’s senior night and last home game. The team honored Paige Andrews, their only senior before the varsity game.
Although there were some fierce volleys, Rock River showed it’s dominance over the younger Guernsey-Sunrise Team, beating them by scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-11.
Again Thompson led the team in kills with four, aces with two and blocked shots with two. Juliana Schiele led the team in digs with three while Andrews led with four assists and 13 returns.
“Our regular season has come to an end,” said Varsity volleyball coach Mindy Kelley. “We made improvements on several skills throughout the season. Our season started off strong, unfortunately we lost some steam part way through. However, we will continue to refine skills in addition to building our mental toughness as we prepare for Regionals. We are excited to participate in the regional tournament as we did not have the opportunity last year. We will begin our Regionals journey playing the Kaycee Buckaroos at 1:30 Friday, Oct. 28, in Southeast.”
