GUERNSEY – The Guernsey-Sunrise high school volleyball team did not win one game last season. Playing in their third week of competition, they have come off the schneid.
The girls had matches last week on Tuesday against Southeast, Thursday against Edgemont and Saturday against Hannah-Elk Mountain. Through the first three games of the season, again, the girls had kept their streak alive of not winning a game.
Although it looked like a much different team in their attitude and their hustle, their outcomes were the same and the only thing left was to learn how to win again. They hadn’t won since 2020.
Saturday at HEM the losing streak was over and they won not only their first game, but their first match 3-1 and to make it even sweeter, it was a conference victory that moved them out of the cellar for the first time in years. The game scores at HEM were 25-21, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-19.
At Edgemont, the scores were 25-12, 25-7 and 25-18. Against Southeast the scores were 25-11, 25-9 and 25-10. The week prior, the team played at home against Sioux County and lost 25-12, 25-16 and 25-8.
For the season Rylie Thompson leads the teams in kills with 5, Paige Andrews leads the team with two aces, Layla Noggle leads the team in serving percentage with 100%, Thompson leads the team in blocked shots, Andrews leads the teams in digs with 14 and Lashea Jaramillo leads the team in assists with three.
The girls will play an away game Friday night at 5 p.m. at Lingle-Ft. Laramie before returning home for a Saturday clash with Midwest at noon.
