As part of the renovations at Gordon Davis Park, the initial portion of tbe new sidewalk beginning at the front of the Visitor Center includes memorials to the Oregon Trail and The Pony Express.
The sidewalk in that area will have a special overlay to depict the ruts made by the thousands of wagons that came across the trail, seen south of Guernsey and widely regarded as some of the best remaining ruts on the entire trail.
Along the new park trail, signs that were once located at the highway rest area east of Guernsey, depicting special points of interest along the original trail and visible from the highway, have been saved and placed to give visitors an idea of the landmarks in the area. When finished, natural grasses and rock will be added to the adjoining beds to complete the scene.
