GUERNSEY--The annual area kick-off celebration of the holiday season, Winter’s Eve, is set for Wednesday, December 5th.
This year’s theme will be “Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow”.
Businesses are encouraged to decorate their windows with Christmas lights to brighten up the community for the season.
Events are still in the planning stages, but the lighting of the community Christmas tree and the illuminated parade are on the list.
Also planned are the community dinner served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the Oregon Trail Open House.
A very special additional feature is being added this year’s festivities. Due to the severe drought and fire restrictions this past summer, the annual July 4th fireworks show had to be cancelled, so Winter’s Eve organizers have received permission to add fireworks to the celebration. They will begin and end the parade.
There will also be Christmas Caroling at the Senior Center following the parade.
If you would like to be involved in finalizing events, suggesting new ones or assisting in some way, a planning meeting is set for Tuesday, November 13th at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Parade forms are available at Town Hall and from Bruce Heimbuck, Community Development Coordinator at his office at 40 S. Wyoming Avenue.
We encourage churches, organizations and businesses to enter a lighted float in the parade this year--prizes will be awarded for the top three entries.
