Candidates file for council seats

GUERNSEY--Six candidates have filed for the Guernsey City Council seats that will be decided in the 2012 election.

There will be two four-year terms and one two-year term. Those council seats are currently held by Penny Wells, Audrey Brown and Cindy Frederick.

Vying for the four-year terms are Dale (Disco) Harris and Craig Frederick. Looking for the two-year seats are Cindy Frederick, Cris Baker, Bob Holloway and Shane Whitworth.

Twice the number of candidates for the open positions will advance to the General Election according to the votes received in the primary election in August.

Also on the ballot in the Primary Election is the question of continuing the Two Percent Lodging Tax which funds the town’s Visitor Center and the Specific Purpose Sales Tax Propositions One (for construction of a new county nursing home/assisted living facility) and Two (for community improvements in Guernsey, Chugwater, Hartville and Glendo. No request for a Wheatland project has been made.

The cemetery district will also be placed on the General Election ballot in November and the town is currently collecting signatures for that petition.
