Posted: Sunday, Mar 11th, 2012
Construction on the Air Force Nuclear Security Tactics Training Center is well underway at Camp Guernsey.
Heath Construction of Fort Collins, CO is the general contractor for the project that will provide state-of-the-art classrooms in a 14,000 square foot area for the 2,000-;lus troops that annually train each year at the camp.
The build will include an armory to secure weapons systems such as the MK19 grenade launcher, the M240 machine gun, the M239 squad assault weapon and the M4 carbine.
It will also offer additional instructor office space for the men and women that continue to train our Airmen in securing the nation’s nuclear arsenal and preparing them to deploy for the War on Terrorism. Personnel from around the country are trained at this facility through the 620 GCTS.
The mission of the 620 GCTS, stationed at Camp Guernsey, is to mold an integrated, elite, highly effective nuclear force trained to counter and deter enemies across the threat spectrum through the highest level of tactics and marksmanship training and provide deploying personnel realistic ground combat skills training to defeat a host of contingency situations.
The building is scheduled for completion in early fall of this year. This project, funded through the Air Force to support training in nuclear security, is one of several major projects to be completed at Camp Guernsey and the training areas in the next few years.
