GUERNSEY--A graveside service for Dixie Ann Finch, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Prairie Rest Cemetery near Guernsey, Wyoming.
Dixie Finch passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland, Wyoming.
Dixie was born July 24, 1931 in Colton, California the daughter of Elmer Charles and Florence (Morrow) Harper.
She graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1949. In 1950 Dixie married Roy Finch and over the next two years they were blessed with two children, Steven and Valarie.
Roy and Dixie divorced in 1971 and Dixie soon followed her daughter out to Wyoming to be closer to her family.
She became employed by Diversified Services Inc. in Torrington, Wyoming. She loved her job and was involved in the Special Olympics. Dixie made many lifelong friends there.
After Dixie retired she moved to Guernsey to spend more time with her family. Dixie’s health problems became more complicated and needed constant care and so she became a resident of the Platte County Nursing Home. The staff members were a second family to her. They all went above and beyond to help Dixie, and she never missed a chance to brag about them.
Dixie is survived by her son, Steven Finch of Fresno, California; son-in-law, Gregg Martinez of Guernsey; grandchildren, Jamie Martinez of Guernsey, Zackrey Bennett of Guernsey, Nathan Martinez, Danielle Starr of Hartville, Wyoming Talisha Mottinger of Fairfax, Virginia, and Sean Martinez of Guernsey; great-grandchildren, Tanaya, Benson, Briar, Bella, and Paislee Martinez, Christian Nelms, and Devon Mottinger.
Dixie was preceded in death by her daughter, Valarie (Finch) Martinez on March 29, 2013; and parents, Florence and Elmer Harper.
Serving as the pallbearer will be Dixie’s great-grandson Benson Martinez.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Linda and Jim Elwood of Torrington, Wyoming.
A memorial to the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home, New Building Fund, P.O. Box 1148, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
