GUERNSEY-It appeared that the Pronghorn hunting season was open last weekend in Guernsey as the Vikings shot down Farson-Eden 48-0.
The Vikes picked up 21 points in the first quarter and held the same lead at half. They scored 14 in the third quarter and another 13 in the fourth to send the Pronghorns home to lick their wounds.
With the win, the Vikes push their season record to 4-1, but they’ll need a good game this Friday as they head to Midwest to take on the 4-1 Oilers.
Isaac Carr was selected as the Offensive Player of the Game for the Vikes. A junior, Carr had a 12-yard reception for a touchdown.
John Fletcher was selected as theDefensive Player of the Game for Guernsey-Sunrise. He had four tackles, all solo stops, had two sacks and hurried Farson’s quarterback four times, in addition to recovering a fumble.
The Vikings had a total of 266 offensive yards, picking up 98 in the air and another 168 on the ground.
Sophomore quarterback Treasure Hollister completed six passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. He also had one catch for 34 yards.
Sophomore running back Brady Esquibel had 102 yards in 18 carries. He also had three catches for 32 yards and completed one pass for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker Luke Ibarra had another great defensive performance as he had 13 total tackles, 12 of them on his own and picked off two Pronghorn passes.
Sophomore linebacker Austin Quynn finished with eight tackles, six of them unassisted.
Senior defensive back Justin Orr had seven takedowns, five of them on his own and recovered one fumble.
The Vikes are in a three-way tie for first in the Class 1-A, Six Man
South Conference at 4-1 with Little Snake River and Midwest. Hanna-Elk Mountain and Farson-Eden remain winless in five starts.
Midwest’s only loss was to North Conference leader 6-0 Dubois.
Friday;s game at Midwest begins at 7 p.m. Next week the Vikes will celebrate homecoming when they host Meeteetse.
