Want your Christmas cards to have something special from Wyoming this year?
The local chapter of the National Pony Express Riders will hold a special cancellation and delivery of cards from local communities for the 2008 Christmas season.
Christmas cards will be collected in specially marked boxes located inside the main office of the United States Post Offices in Guernsey, Chugwater, Glendo, Hartville, Wheatland and Fort Laramie between November 15th and December 5th. The cards will be marked with a special Pony Express logo, then carried by Pony Express riders on horseback along the original trail between Guernsey and Fort Laramie on December 6th.
Once the cards reach Fort Laramie, they will be sent on through the regular postal system for delivery to the addressee. All cards must have the proper U.S. postage stamps on the envelope PRIOR to placing them in the collection boxes.
All mail is subject to inspection by postal authorities. The promotion is intended for holiday mail and therefore any items that are time-sensitive should be sent through the regular mail as delivery will not be made until after December 6th.
There is no additional charge for this service-it is one of several special activities to be sponsored by the Platte and Goshen County Pony Express chapter promoting the Pony Express and its place in history.
Donations will be accepted and proceeds will be used for expenses when Wyoming hosts the national convention in 2010, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express.
